Exchange Hosted Services
(EHS Services)
Updated:
October 16, 2007
Overview
The Exchange Server(s) used by your company store vitally important
data including email, contacts, and more, but it remains vulnerable
to an escalating roll of threats. Email born viruses and
worms, denial-of-service attacks, advanced spam attacks, and the
need to please a rising set of government regulations and legal
compliance all make managing effective messaging and security
increasingly difficult.
Microsoft Exchange Hosted Services for messaging security and
management is a collection of four modular services that help
organizations shield themselves from e-mail-borne malware, suit
retention requirements for compliance, encrypt data to care for
confidentiality, and protect access to e-mail during and after a
disaster. The services are deployed over the Internet using a SaaS
(Software as a Service) model which helps reduce additional capital
investment, open IT resources to focus on other impeding IT
initiatives, and mitigate messaging risks before they reach the
corporate network.
Behind The Scenes
First of all, there is no need for you to change or modify your
existing e-mail infrastructure, nor to purchase, install or maintain
any new hardware or software. The core of the EHS Services is
a distributed network of redundant data centers located at key
points throughout the Internet backbone. Each data center contains
100% fault-tolerant servers that are load-balanced from site to site
and from server to server.

Speedy Deployment and Easy Messaging Management
EHS Services offer astonishing ease of implementation. There is no
need for enterprises to change or modify their existing e-mail
infrastructure EHS Services by HostLabs only requires one MX record
associated with your domain name in DNS, which resolves to the
Microsoft Exchange Hosted Services network, allowing the IP address
of the corporate e-mail server to stay hidden from DNS lookups. This
helps customers become invisible to malicious mailers because the
DNS lookup points to the Microsoft network instead of their own
network. Customers only accept inbound SMTP traffic from Microsoft,
therefore closing vulnerability in their network firewall. An
additional connection restriction locks down firewalls and allows
e-mail servers to respond only to inbound SMTP requests on port 25
from the Microsoft network. This restriction helps prevent unwanted
e-mail from being sent through a back door directly to the server’s
IP address.
